Draymond Green and his on-court antics
71) The NBA Season is a snooze-fest for me until the playoffs. Unless something weird happens, like Draymond being Draymond.
I watched more Basketball last night than I have since last post-season. All because of Draymond Green and his hockey goon antics.
Some people say, a healthy rivalry between the two teams squaring off is the reason why. I’m not too sure that factor is all that decisive. The animosity between players seems some-what fake now that they are all multi-millionaires. More power to them for that. But, if you ask me, I think it has more to do with Draymond Green being a lightning rod for controversy and him hurting his team, the Golden State Warriors.
As you see in my post above, I wrote that his last suspension (Playoffs 2023) was good for the league. Draymond is the gift that keeps on giving. The league and ESPN can say what it wants, but - believe me, interest is being generated. And the pundits get to talk about something more interesting than who broke the record on triple-doubles, or some other obscure stat, in an era where so many records are constantly being broken.
Of course, I enjoy picking on the Warriors. They are the team I enjoy rooting against. I felt the same way about the Patriots when they were winning Super Bowls. And it was the same way I felt against the Cowboys when they were winning Super Bowls. But, the respect I have for dynastic teams is immense.
I think part of what’s wild about Draymond and his antics is how long he’s been on center stage in the NBA. Players' careers are being extended in all sports in ways they never have before. Prior to Draymond, we had Ron Artest and his antics, which spanned from what, 2003 to 2014?
And of course, prior to Artest, how could anyone forget “The Worm”?!
So, long as the NBA provides interesting soap-operas, and it doesn’t border on the completely destructive and or absurd, I’m pretty sure the league (and its media partners) is more than happy someone like me is refreshing google to find out the latest takes on the Draymond suspension.
Peace out!
