I have officially joined the "Substack Revolution"
1) What I have learned from starting my blog over five years ago, and transitioning to a new platform
When I first started my own blog, It was New Year's Day 2017. I had no idea how it was going to look, or what my vision was for blogging, I just knew I have always had a passion for writing.
When I think of where my life was then compared to where it is now, here are a few key things I learned in particular.
1- Those that have a clear vision accomplish their goals first.
But, that's not an excuse not to do the work. And this is why I’m so grateful I started publicly writing.
2- Anything you do over time, you will naturally get better at.
Well, DUH!
3- Wow! I got a lot better at this.
This is definitely something I want to explore in later writings, but right now as I edit my Substack…I just cringe at some of the pieces that I wrote just a few short years ago.
4- I have an audience that is hungry for my work.
5- My audience is still too small.
6 - Therefore, as of April 18th, 2022 - I officially migrated all my prior work to Substack!
What this means is that from my last post on WordPress from April 15th, 2022, all the way to my first post back in January 2017, all that work can be found right here on Substack! Unfortunately some of the formatting and editing was not as forgiving as I had hoped, but at least my work still and forever will have one home!
When I broke it down, it wasn’t actually that hard to come to this conclusion. I was on wordpress.com, but as it turns out wordpress.org is the real major site that powers most of the internet? That, and I have gotten really into some writers on Substack, and there are comment sections for various authors on Substack, so why not be able to passively promote my work? After-all, I am sometimes active in some of these comment sections.
For me it’s a nice niche website. For others, it’s a place where they make their living. I won’t go too great into detail now, as I am actually currently in the process of drafting a piece on one of my new favorite writers who joined Substack over the Summer of 2021. And that piece will give a very brief overview of how Substack does and can work. Just know that this is where you can now find me!
Honestly, the migration onto here wasn’t as hard as I had anticipated. But, I could definitely use some original graphic art work, just to make the background of my site look nicer. (Any graphic designer friends want to do some Pro Bono work for me?)
Anyhow, take a look around, let me know what you think. If you are someone who actually explored my last blog, and are actively exploring this one, I would be most happy for any feedback, or observations you have as I have made this transition.
Cheers!
