Reliable online news-sources: Where I get my political news
64) Israel and Palestine are at War! Fifty years after the *"Yom Kippur War"
When I initially drafted my piece on President Biden and Kevin McCarthy being ejected as Speaker of the House, I had no idea that there would be an all out war between Israel and Palestine.
I’m very concerned, and very curious to know how this powder-keg went off. How Israeli intel didn’t pick up on this sooner is very reminiscent of how 9/11 or Pearl Harbor happened in America.
Unlike the Ukraine-Russia conflict, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, is not new news to Americans or the whole world, for that matter. Rather both sides are at an inflection point that the international community did not anticipate, nor has anyone seen in quite some time.
*As the subtitle of this piece informs; This current war started when Hamas attacked Israel on October 07, 2023. This is exactly fifty years and one day after the start of the “Yom Kippur War” which went on for twenty days, from October 06, to October 26 1973. https://www.britannica.com/event/Yom-Kippur-War
For myself, once I learned that Israel was at war with Palestine, the first news source I visited was the Political Wire website.
https://politicalwire.com/
In my opinion, Political Wire is the best aggregator of political news I have ever found. I have proudly been reading them for gosh, over twenty years (since my junior year of college… hard to believe). Most of their stories are aggregated from news sites such as the NY Times, NBC News, the Wall Street Journal, and even prominent writers on Substack!
Below is a website headline on the Israeli conflict, and a quoted example of a political wire aggregation.
Why Hamas Chose to Attack Israel Now: “NBC News “Former U.S. intelligence and military officers said they believed the timing of the Hamas attack was primarily aimed at disrupting negotiations between Israel and Saudi Arabia as Riyadh appeared on the verge of a historic step to normalize relations with Israel.” ”
Here are some other Political Wire headlines/ aggregations that provide news and updates on this conflict.
Hamas Restores Biden’s Relationship with Netanyahu: This is aggregated from Politico.
Hamas Undermined Biden’s Saudi-Israeli Peace Plan: This is aggregated from Axios.
Netanyahu’s Foes Would Join Him in Wartime Coalition: This is aggregated from the NY Times.
Hamas Attack Raises Questions Over Israeli Intelligence: This is aggregated from the NY Times and the Times of Israel.
Political Wire makes me smarter and more well-informed about politics. I’m a proud paying member. And as a member, I get exclusive editorials, which are always so insightful. I also don’t have to deal with scrolling past all the advertisements on the page. This makes for a much smoother browsing experience.
You can also find ‘political wire’ on Substack too, where it is known as Politics Extra, (a companion newsletter to the official website).
There is also Chris Riback’s excellent newsletter, too. (Often working in tandem with political wire)
There is also *Politico, which is another excellent news source that is often known to be the go to newspaper for beltway political folks. It is one of the numerous websites that political wire frequently aggregates.
*See Hamas Restores Biden’s Relationship with Netanyahu
There is also another website I discovered just a few years ago that I always share with my students; * ALLSIDES MEDIA. It’s a great site that rates news stories as Left, Lean Left, Center, Lean Right & Right. It’s a credible source of how to grade the partisanship of the news.

I promised I would show you all some reliable news sources that I personally go to and trust. It was not my plan to write it so soon, or make it so topical, or even tragic. But, life sometimes takes some real and unexpected turns.
I will certainly will write a follow-up post, with more thoughts and ideas, and things I have learned as the world grapples with what is transpiring in the heart of Gaza.
Until Next time!
