<PT. I> Abortion Rights in America: It's much easier to get pregnant in America than it is to adopt a child
25) Part I of a six part series on Abortion
This is Part I on a multi-part series on “Abortion Rights” in America.
The results of abortion rights no longer being protected by federal law, has had reverberations throughout the country. States like NY, California, as well as most of the States that comprise New England and other more liberal-minded States, are considered safe-havens for women to terminate a pregnancy. But, throughout much of conservative America, getting an abortion has gotten incredibly difficult, if not downright impossible.
And if conservative America can outlaw abortions nation-wide, they will!
Large swaths of the country have implemented laws that require women (and children!) to carry out unwanted pregnancies, oftentimes under some truly “extraordinary” circumstances. Yet, the ability to adopt a child in America is actually more difficult than it is (was?) to terminate a pregnancy.
How does this make any sense?
Every State has their own rules and regulations on adoption. Here is a list of some the biggest hurdles:
(1) The age of the adoptive parent.
(2) The financial soundness of a family. Meaning, are you too poor to even take care of yourself?
(3) The functionality of the family unit the new child is coming into is of utmost importance also. Meaning, is this a violent family? Is it a family of drug-addicts? Is the family mentally fit to adopt a child?
(4) Whether you are married or not: Also, is it a heterosexual marriage?
Adoption agencies are allowed to make the rules up as they go along. https://www.americanadoptions.com
There are other factors as well. When I look at the website it makes my eyes roll to the back of my head. I don’t have any plans for adopting a child, but just seeing what it takes to adopt a child, might just discourage even the most benevolent souls among us.
Yet, getting pregnant is often all too easy, but terminating a pregnancy hasn’t been this difficult in over fifty years. https://www.npr.org/sections/health
When a ten year old girl in the State of Ohio gets pregnant from getting raped from a man old enough to be her actual parent, and then has to rush to Indiana to get the abortion, I have an issue!
The fact that the Indiana politicians say they regret that abortion wasn’t outlawed in time for them to block her family from doing it, I have an issue!
I have two children (both girls). My oldest daughter is now eight years old. Children are reaching puberty at younger and younger ages. The trauma that little girl must feel and have from getting raped and then getting pregnant, just makes my skin crawl.
For your ardent pro-lifers to come out and say “It’s God’s Will”, I find that to be the ultimate cop-out!
It makes me not want to be associated with your God in any way whatsoever. Maybe that’s blasphemous, but arguments like that cause me to really embrace my agnostic side.
For the record, I’m culturally Jewish. I do not regularly attend services. I have gone to Church before, and have gone with my older daughter’s family. If you want to invite me to your Temple, Mosque or Church, I will go for the experience. I do believe in God too. I can’t necessarily say I’m spiritual even though I wouldn’t deny it, either.
I’m not even sure why I believe in God. I just view God as the unanswerable. Hence why I can’t be an atheist, as I find it peculiar that an atheist can be convinced God or a God doesn’t exist. But, then again if I think more deeply about it, maybe it’s a bit peculiar that people are so convinced God does exist.
Either way, when a ten year old girl gets raped and is pregnant, adults who run our government in the States and on the national level deny this young child of the necessary medical services she absolutely deserves! It really makes me ready to throw up my hands and say “I’m out on God”.
I already have my own sense of morality outside the State imposed religious order.
But, honestly, abortion isn’t a moral issue, it’s a human-rights issue!
The christian-right was planning to steal women’s (and children’s!) right to an abortion for decades. And the left sadly wasn’t just caught napping, but has been checked out about this all along. I just pray the damage is only temporary and that we can somehow fast forward back to 2022, and not continue to go back to the 1950s.
For people on the right to be so cavalier and strident about this issue, makes my blood boil. The time to fight back on this was years ago.
What people in Ohio and in Indiana were trying to do to that innocent ten year old girl is beyond disgusting, and for anyone to soft-pedal it or sugar coat it, isn’t doing anyone any favors. People deserve the truth, and certain people deserve to be called out!
My most sincere prayers for America, as well as all those misguided people who think it’s a good idea to endanger women’s lives and ruin young girls’ lives.

And the potential the unwanted baby will face: a life of neglect, an inability to make critical attachments necessary for healthy development, and missing out on the necessary emotional nourishment and care that sets the stage for adulthood.
