Who are you going to be spending the most time with during the School Year?
I.) For students/younger people/teenagers
As an Educator in a high school setting, I want some of my writings to be shared among my readers’ children, and help inspire our kids to reach their greatest heights. After-all, it takes a village!
From listening to a number of excellent Podcasts over the years, one–The Tim Ferriss Show; http://fourhourworkweek.com/podcast/, a few of his lessons stuck with me in particular that I’d like to share with my students.
My biggest take away (in my own words) – “You are basically the average of the 5 friends/classmates you spend the most time with”. In other words, the friends/classmates you spend the most time with, influence you the most. Choose wisely!
In other Words....
If there are certain goals you want to reach while in school and you are not quite there in some areas but doing great in other areas, take a look at the classmates you surround yourself with.
4 points to consider (for students/younger people/teenagers):
1- Are the classmates you spend the most time with actively engaged in school? IE–Are they challenging themselves inside and outside of the classroom? Are they involved in a sports team or a club? Do they play an instrument or are they taking on something artistic? Are they encouraging of you and/or your peers when you try something new?
2- Are the classmates you surround yourself with trying to better themselves academically/grade-wise? IE–Are your classmates going to extra-help? Are they taking the free tutoring the teacher offers? Are they putting in the time to study before exams? Are you and your classmates forming study groups?
3– Are the classmates you surround yourself with committed to improving their community? IE – Are they in clubs that try to help people? What type of volunteer work are they doing or looking to do outside of school?
4- Do you see yourself in the classmates you surround yourself with? Do you want to see yourself in them? Do you like what you see?
I invite you to be very pro-active during this school year in regards to evaluating who of your classmates you spend the most time with, and taking on cultivating new relationships with classmates that you find can help bring out the best in you!
